Improving practice skills for information security students through the PTIT CTF competition

In addition to searching for and selecting the school’s representative team for the “Cybersecurity Student 2025” contest, the Student with Information Security PTIT CTF 2015 contest also facilitates information security students to train and improve their practical skills.

As part of the meeting of new students in information security of the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology – PTIT in late September, the Department of Information Security held the award ceremony for the contest “Students with Information Security – P TIT CTF 2025”.

The Student Competition with Information Security PTIT CTF has been held annually since 2016 and has so far become a familiar playground for many IT, Information Security students of the Posts and Telecommunications Technology Academy.

2025 is the 10th year of the student competition with information security PTIT CTF held

Over the past years, this contest has contributed to propagating, disseminating and raising awareness and responsibility for information security among students; promoting the movement of learning and training information security skills; at the same time, the contest also supports the selection of the Institute’s information security teams to participate in national and international cybersecurity and safety competitions.

With the 2025 PTIT CTF competition, the qualifiers took place online from 8:00 on August 23 to 23:59 on August24, attracting the participation of 123 teams with a total of nearly 500 students. The best teams in the qualifying rounds competed in the final tournament which took place live on September 21 at the Hanoi campus of the Academy.

Continued in the Capture the Flag – CTF, cyberwarfare game model, the 2025 PTIT Student Information Security Competition requires contestants to have in – depth knowledge and skills in computer security, focusing on computer network attack and defense.

The main contents of a CTF competition are Web (found weaknesses, vulnerabilities, exploiting vulnerabilities in web applications); Pwnable (exploitation, finding weaknesses, holes in software); Reverse engineering (reversing software code); Forensic (investigation, analysis, tracing incidents); Crypto (decryption, attacking encryption algorithms).

A new point of this year’s PTIT CTF finals is to combine the Academy’s Hanoi and HCMC campuses to hold a parallel competition at the same time for all cyber security and safety enthusiast students studying in the two major cities.

In addition, through this contest, the Department of Information Security in particular and the Academy in general will find out the outstanding students, good teams are the nucleus for the domestic and international cyber security and safety contest for students.

At the final and award ceremony of the student competition with PTIT CTF 2025 information security held on September 26 last year, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, Director of the Post and Telecommunications Technology Academy, presented the first prize of the competition to the LUGIA team of four students Nguyen Van Long, Nguyen Quoc Viet, Chu Duc Anh and Vu Duc Luong.

Besides, the organizers also awarded 5 Second Prize, 10 Third Prize, 8 Consolation Prize to the student teams. In addition, movement prizes have been awarded, including the “Stilent Warrior” award for six competition teams and the “Excellence Prize” for three competition teams.

Commenting on the PTIT CTF 2025 competition, Do Chi Tung, a D21 student of PTlT’s information security course, Rolypoly team member commented: This year’s competition is larger than previous years, with diverse questions and hard questions being rationally allocated.

Nguyen Le Ky Anh, a D22 student in information security, a member of the Bún Bò team, said this year’s PTIT CTF finals exam was quite challenging, but thanks to his efforts to review, his team also solved some problems.

As for Phung Quoc Viet, a D23 student in information security, the PTIT CTF competition is a rewarding playground, not only to help students gain more knowledge and skills in the field of information security but also a memorable student experience.

Also at the PTIT information security student meeting event, representatives of the Department of Political and Student Affairs and the Information Security Department gave awards to the group of 7 students including Nguyen Hai Anh, Nguyen Gia Nam, Chu Duc Anh, Nguyễn Văn Long, Nguyễn Quốc Việt, Trương Quốc Đạt, Doãn Duy Phúc. This is the team of PTIT students who won the Second Prize at the International CTF competition organized by Moscow State University of Communication Engineering and Informatics in March 2025, in the form of “Attack – Defense.”
