The statue of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, was placed in Hanoi and opened for visitors on September 9.
The work performed by Italian artist Valentina Picozzi, brought in by the Vietnam Blockchain and Digital Assets Association (VBA) is located at the company’s headquarters in Times City. It is the fifth statue in the world to feature Satoshi.
Satoshi Nakamoto is the alias of the person or group that created Bitcoin, the first digital currency, and the birth of blockchain technology. In October 2008, Satoshi released a technical report on a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency system. In early 2009, he released the Bitcoin software and mined the first block, before mysteriously disappearing from 2010.
The identity of Satoshi remains unknown. However, with his ownership of 1.1 million Bitcoin, or more than $ 120 billion, Satoshi Nakamoto is in theory among the world’s 20 richest people.

The statue of Bitcoin’s founder Satoshi was brought back to Vietnam by the Vietnam Blockchain and Digital Assets Association (VBA), opened for tour from September 9.
Satoshi statues around the world are designed with special visual effects. The work is set in Vietnam and has a “decreasing” effect. It is visible from the profile, but from the frontal view it fades and disappears – symbolizing Satoshi’s retreat after giving power back to the community.
Nguyen Van Hien, vice president and general secretary of the VBA, said it took 21 months for artist Valentina Picozzi to finish the work. “The icon is a symbol of decentralized culture. The placement of the statue in many places is a recognition of the contributions of Bitcoin’s “father” to the global tech financial sector, “she said.

Satoshi statues have a “disappearance” effect, which disappears on face – to – face observation.
According to Phan Duc Trung, chairman of the VBA, the story of Satoshi Nakamoto is the inspiration of the global blockchain community. The move to Vietnam is to spread the core values of blockchain – transparency, freedom, security, and bringing blockchain closer to the public. The Satoshi Statue and blockchain Gallery exhibition space will open every Saturday.
There are four statues of Satoshi Nakatomo worldwide, which are located in Hungary, Switzerland, El Salvador and Japan. The first Hungarian version, “We are all Satoshi”, was designed with reflective bronze so viewers could see their faces on the piece, to convey that anyone could be Satoshi. In Switzerland, Satoshi’s statue was stolen after its October 2024 unveiling, before being found in August of this year.
