On March 20, 2025, at the Hanoi training facility, the Institute of Posts and Telecommunications Technology (Institut) worked with the Australian Embassy’s working team to deploy the “Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technology Centre”-the project is within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Australia and is an initiative that receives support from the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, and is operated in partnership between the Institute, Nokia and Sydney University of Technology (UTS).

The meeting was attended by Danielle Cashen, First Secretary in charge of economic affairs, and by Prof. Dr. Seo on the side of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Huang Huu Hanh, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department, on Nokia side Hiro Miura, Director of Mobile Network in Southeast Asia, on UTS side PGS.TS. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, director of the Australia – Vietnam Center for Strategic Technology, on the side of the National Innovation Center is Do Tien Thinh, deputy director of that center, on its side is Associate Professor.TS. Dang Hoai Bac, director of the Academy, together with leaders and senior officials of related attached units of the participants.

At the meeting, the Center’s representative presented an overview of the project and expressed the hope that the Center will become a hub connecting advanced research, promoting bilateral cooperation between Australia and Vietnam as well as countries around the world in the field of strategic technologies such as 5G, future 6G solutions, cybersecurity, AI, semiconductors. In addition, on the occasion of a meeting between partners and stakeholders, the situation of the deployment of activities in the first phase of the project since the launch was shared. Besides, the presentation describes potential technological systems expected to be used in research and application at the center by experts, and this breakthrough partnership promises to revolutionize next-generation network connectivity and strengthen the cybersecurity of the two countries, the cooperation will help Australia and vietnam to lead in the field of global connectivity, while promoting economic growth, strengthening security, and expanding the community’s access to digital technology.

Representatives of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam Danielle Cashen, First Secretary in charge of the economic sector, said that Australia has experience implementing new technologies: AI, 5G, cybersecurity, etc. The Australian government is willing to support the center’s partners thus expanding the community’s access to safe, effective, and sustainable space and digital technology. Cashen also said the newly appointed Australian ambassador to Vietnam is also very interested in the center and will dedicate time to support its activities in the coming time. “I am so excited and honored to be part of this meaningful project development meeting. I also want to thank UTS, Nokia and PTIT for the efforts in the recent past and hope the center will reap a lot of success. ”

In the same view, delegates representing the leadership of the Department of International Cooperation – Ministry of Science and Technology, NIC National Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) appreciated the efforts of the stakeholders during the project implementation process and expressed their determination and commitment to devote the highest resources to the early project to bring first effects. Associate Professor and Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Director of the Australia – Vietnam Strategic Technology Center, thanks the support and confidence of the governments of the two countries in implementing the center establishment project.

Speaking at work, Prof. TS. Deng Hoai Bac, Director of the Academy, emphasized “To be one of 5 higher education institutions oriented to develop into a key national higher education institution in technique and technology As one of the pioneering universities in Vietnam in information technology and digital transformation, the Academy is honored to collaborate with partners to implement the activities of the Australia – Vietnam Strategic Technology Centre. The initiative was launched at a critical time when Vietnam is stepping up the steps of new generation network technology transformation to implement the Party’s Resolution 57, affirming digital transformation, science and technology as core drivers for socio – economic development. ”

The partnership between the Academy and the partners within the project framework will be a bridge between experts, researchers, and policymakers from both countries, to fully tap the potential of 5G and 6G technologies. The initiative received support from the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology. Sydney University of Technology will lead the initiative to establish the Australia – Vietnam Strategic Technology Centre; while Nokia, the leading technology innovation conglomerate, will act as the technology founding partner at the Australia – Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre.
